Mentoring guide for mentors
Walk into every mentoring conversation with the questions, agreement and tracker already prepared
A step by step guide to being a good mentor, from first meeting to closing well
What it does
Taking on a mentor role often starts with good intentions and no clear plan for what to actually do in the room. This guide walks you through the whole relationship, from your first conversation with a mentee through to closing the partnership well. Reach for it before you agree to mentor someone, before your first meeting, and again whenever you want a reminder of good practice. It sets out the roles a mentor can play, the questions to ask before you start, and how to build a simple mentoring agreement and action plan together with your mentee. It also gives you a learning tracker to record what you discuss in each meeting, an evaluation tool to check how the relationship is working, and a list of practical activities to try, so you are not starting from a blank page.
